Surprise Treasure from the Past

In 1986, Marsha Corley was a 6th grade teacher at Creighton Intermediate School, teaching history. To prepare her students for the rigors of 7th grade, she assigned them a time period in Texas History and asked them to create a square for a class quilt. The students were also assigned an essay about their quilt square, and the student with the best essay (judged by another teacher, of course) was given the quilt to keep.
39 years later, Marcia Reagan, a retired fellow teacher, volunteering at the Bargain Box run by the Conroe Service League, recognized this donated quilt as the work of another teacher. The Conroe Service League has been a long time supporter of the Heritage Museum, so they thought the quilt depicting Texas's long history would be a perfect exhibit.
Through the maker's patch on the back of the quilt, Suann Hereford was able to track down Mrs. Corley and invite her to the museum to tell us more about her quilt.
Nancy Kolb, chairman of the museum's accessioning committee, wanted to learn more about the quilt's history for museum records.
Thanks to both Marsha & Marcia for helping this local treasure get to the Heritage Museum!
