Pioneer Days

(For Children 8-11 Years Old)


 

2010 Pioneer Days School Schedule:

 5th-9th    July, 2010
12th-16th July, 2010

Each year in July the Museum hosts "Pioneer Days," a summer program for 8-11 year olds. Students who participate enjoy hands-on activities such as:
  • Churning butter
  • Making bread
  • Making rope
  • Dipping candles
  • Writing with a quill pen
  • Making a pioneer toy
  • Singing Pioneer Songs
  • Washing on rub-boards
  • Cutting logs with a two-man saw
  • Mock archaeology dig
  • Spinning and weaving demonstrations
  • Quilting
  • Playing Pioneer games

 

Pictured at left are children who participated in our July 2009 Pioneer Day butter making class. Supplies and the butter making equipment were donated by Borden's. Volunteers from Exxon/Mobil also participated in the event. The other pictures shown throughout this page also came from the July 2009 Pioneer Day. Sessions are three hours long:

  • Morning Session: 9:00 AM until 12 Noon
  • Afternoon Session: 1 PM to 4 PM

 

Pioneer Days begin the FIRST Monday after July 4th each year. Children must pre-register and pay a  fee of $35.00 to cover cost of materials. Each session is limited to 20 students with four adults to supervise. Registration begins in mid-May so if your family includes a child age 8 to 11, call early -- this program fills up fast!
