We recently held a reception in Morris Bateman's honor presenting his collection of Communication Memorabilia including a switchboard which was donated by Mr. Bateman. The Dial System went into effect October 1954 in Conroe. Some of the early local telephone operators were Lila Jeffcoat, Vera Cotton Acrey, Helen Towes, Reba Mizell Ellisor, Eunice Hill McMillian,Ms. Hodges Williamson, and Virginia Waller. Many local people came by to enjoy the presentation and visit with old friends from the telephone company.
Plans are in the works to display Boy Scouts Memorabilia as the Boy Scouts of America are celebrating their 100th Year Anniversary. Once we complete the Boy Scouts Display, we hope that you will stop by the museum to preview. Some of our previously Displays were:

We especially enjoy exhibiting local collections, so
please consider contacting us if you have something you'd like to share.
These collections don't have to be historical. They can be of varied
interests. The collections can be loaned to the Museum for a period of three
months. They will be displayed in locked glass cases so they will be safe. |
